Historic Iran-US Memorandum Set for Signing in Switzerland
Agreement Between Iran and the United States
According to Главком: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has confirmed that the text of a memorandum of understanding with the United States is now finalized. The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland. Under the terms of the agreement, hostilities will cease across all fronts, and the US-imposed naval blockade against Iran will be lifted. Two central provisions will take effect:
- an immediate and permanent halt to military operations, including the situation in Lebanon;
- the end of the maritime blockade.
Gharibabadi stated,
“The text of the memorandum of understanding has been finalized, and the official signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding will take place in Switzerland on Friday.”
He further emphasized that
“our commitments will come into force as of Friday.”
Following the signing, Tehran and Washington will enter into 60-day negotiations, contingent upon the release of billions of dollars from frozen Iranian assets. Gharibabadi added that entering these talks ‘depends on the United States fulfilling its obligations.’
Confirmation of the Deal
US President Donald Trump confirmed the agreement, stating:
“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to everyone!”
This memorandum thus marks a pivotal moment in Iran-US relations, binding both sides to the conditions laid out in the document.
The agreement could serve as a foundation for improved ties between the two nations, which have been strained in recent years. Lifting the naval blockade and ending military actions open the door for diplomacy and economic cooperation, though compliance by both parties remains critical for regional stability. The upcoming negotiations, set to begin after the signing, will likely shape the future trajectory of bilateral relations.
As the historic signing of the memorandum approaches, it is essential to consider the broader implications of this agreement. The upcoming negotiations may pave the way for lasting peace, much like the recent peace agreement signing in Switzerland, which aims to stabilize relations in the region. Understanding these developments can provide insights into the future dynamics between Iran and the United States.
