World Athletics Indoor Championships

According to Главком: For the first time in the history of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, five athletes shared the podium in the women's pole vault. Great Britain's Molly Caudery secured the gold medal by clearing 4.85 meters on her second attempt. Slovenia's Tina Šutej took silver, having failed to clear that same height. The bronze medal was shared by three athletes-Angelica Moser of Switzerland, Amálie Švábíková of the Czech Republic, and Imogen Ayris of New Zealand-who all cleared 4.70 meters with an identical number of attempts but were eliminated at 4.80 meters. This event is a highlight of the indoor season, showcasing the sport's top talent.

The final was notable for another reason: nine of the twelve competitors successfully cleared 4.70 meters. This height had previously only been achieved at the 2024 Olympic Games. Similar multi-athlete podiums have occurred in the high jump event in 1985 and 2004.

Ukrainian Athletes' Success and Medalists' Comments

For Amálie Švábíková and Imogen Ayris, this bronze represents their first senior-level medal of this stature. Gold medalist Molly Caudery reflected on her victory:

“This gold means so much more this time. I’ve had a really tough two years, so I needed this.”

Tina Šutej, the oldest medalist at 37, shared her perspective:

“I came to Toruń as the favorite, but something went wrong at 4.85m. It’s not easy competing with girls who are 10 or 15 years younger than me, but I’m proud that I’m still very competitive.”

At this World Championships, Ukraine won three medals, secured by:

  • Yaroslava Mahuchikh
  • Yuliya Levchenko
  • Oleh Doroshchuk

This landmark moment at the World Indoor Championships is significant not only for the athletes involved but for the advancement of women's sports globally. The increased competition and high-level performances indicate a rising standard of training worldwide. The success of emerging athletes like Švábíková and Ayris highlights the promise of a new generation in track and field, which may inspire more girls and women to take up the pole vault and motivate new talent.

The success of female athletes at the World Indoor Championships is further highlighted by the achievements of Ukrainian high jumpers. For instance, Yaroslava Mahuchikh's gold medal marks a significant moment for Ukraine, showcasing the country's strength in track and field events. This not only emphasizes the depth of talent present at the championships but also reflects the growing prominence of women's sports on the global stage.
