Concerns about the policy of appeasing Russia

According to Главком: Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Oleksandr Alfiorov expressed concern about the policy of appeasing Russia, noting that it could lead to fatal consequences. According to him, this situation resembles the period after World War II when the world tolerated the aggressive ambitions of Soviet Russia. Alfiorov emphasized that the modern world is once again on the path of appeasing Russia, which could have serious implications for global security.

World War II, which ended in 1945, left a complicated international situation that contributed to the formation of aggressive regimes. Oleksandr Alfiorov noted that the policy of appeasing the aggressor allowed Stalin's Russia to create its communist governments. He also pointed out that after the collapse of the USSR, the democratic world once again believed in the victim-Russia, which became the reason for repeating historical mistakes.

Critical security situation in Ukraine

The security situation in Ukraine remains critical. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky recently announced the readiness of a document on security guarantees for Ukraine, which was discussed during negotiations in Paris. It should be recalled that Donald Trump was the President of the United States during the discussions of these guarantees. Oleksandr Merezhko, commenting on the situation, emphasized that Ukraine, in both political and military senses, is the only country that can resist Russia.

Russian aggression manifests itself in a number of countries, including:

  • Moldova
  • Chechnya
  • Georgia
  • Belarus
  • Ukraine

These facts indicate that appeasing the aggressor can lead to further destabilization of the region and threats to international security.

“Oleksandr Alfiorov's statements emphasize the importance of realizing the consequences of appeasement policy in the modern world.”

The historical lessons demonstrated by the period after World War II remain relevant, as events in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries indicate the danger of repeating past mistakes. The international community's response to Russian aggression and support for Ukraine could become key factors in ensuring stability in the region.
