Rules for transporting animals on intercity and international buses

According to glavcom.ua: The government of Ukraine has approved rules for transporting animals, developed in collaboration with the UAnimals organization. According to these rules, all pets must have a veterinary document for travel on intercity and international buses.

  • Small animals (up to 10 kg) can be in containers or bags, held in hands or placed under the seat.
  • Medium and large dogs (10-45 kg) must be muzzled and leashed, with bedding on the floor.
  • Dogs weighing over 45 kg are transported according to separate carrier rules.
  • Guide dogs are entitled to free travel, with a muzzle and short leash.

These rules are aimed at passenger convenience, safety, and humane treatment of animals during transportation. They come into effect after publication and are mandatory for all bus carriers.

Development in EU legislation

Recently, the European Parliament passed a law on care standards for cats and dogs in the EU. These are the first regulations in Europe’s history governing the conditions for keeping pets.

Veterinarians from the LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital emphasized the risks pets face due to climate change. They recommend paying attention to animal health during summer heat.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted rules for transporting animals on intercity and international buses in collaboration with the UAnimals organization. These standards aim to ensure passenger comfort, transportation safety, and humane treatment of animals, establishing conditions for transporting animals of different sizes. Meanwhile, the European Parliament has passed a law on minimum care standards for cats and dogs in the EU, highlighting the need to ensure proper conditions for keeping pets in EU countries.
