Kyiv Targeted in Major Assault

According to Главком: On January 24, 2026, Kyiv suffered a severe attack that caused significant disruption to the city's residents. In the aftermath, citizens in the Pozniaky and Troieshchyna districts have banded together to restore heating and electricity to their apartment buildings. This community-led effort is a direct response to the crisis, highlighting the resilience of Kyiv's people. For instance, residents of a 16-story building on Revutskoho Street, which houses over 500 apartments, are working actively alongside municipal utility workers to get essential services running again.

Utility Crisis in Desnianskyi District

The Desnianskyi district has become the epicenter of a major utility failure. In Troieshchyna alone, approximately 600 high-rise buildings were left without electricity, water, and heating. The situation was severely compounded when the attack knocked the TEC-6 thermal power plant offline. In response to the crisis, Maksym Bakhmatov, head of the Desnianskyi District State Administration, announced the deployment of additional round-the-clock heating shelters to provide warmth for those in need.

Residents are taking an active role in the recovery. Svitlana Holikova, a resident of the building on Revutskoho Street, described the collective effort:

“Yesterday we were heating our building. I'm grateful that good people helped. We got part of the building's heating running on the third attempt.” - Svitlana Holikova

She added that plumbers used gas cylinders to thaw frozen pipes, and when the gas ran out, they went to search for new supplies to continue the work.

Power supply issues have also been acute. According to Svitlana Holikova, “the electrician had five fuses (which is the norm), but we needed up to ten for one entrance.” Residents independently searched for the necessary spare parts, found some, and helped each other out.

These joint efforts demonstrate how the community has rallied in a difficult time, ready to support one another in restoring normal life after the attack. The situation underscores the critical importance of solidarity among residents during a crisis. Their united work to restore utilities shows a community's determination to survive and support each other through hardship. Government bodies are also responding to the emergency by deploying heating points, a necessary step to ensure the safety and comfort of those affected by the attack.
