After a Russian Night Strike Shattered His Café Windows, a Kyiv Owner Served Coffee Through the Rubble
Yevgen's Café Under Attack
According to Главком: A Kyiv resident named Yevgen had just opened his coffee shop in the Podil district, near the Chernobyl Museum, when it was hit during an overnight Russian military assault. This bombardment of Kyiv and the surrounding region was one of the most severe on record, leaving over 50 locations damaged or destroyed. Among the affected sites were:
- the Lukianivka market
- the residential complexes 'Zelenyi Ostriv-1' and 'Zelenyi Ostriv-2'
- the building of the Azerbaijani Embassy
- the National Art Museum
- the Chernobyl Museum
Despite the destruction, Yevgen reopened for business the morning after the attack, handing out coffee to customers through the broken windows. His mother joined in, offering sweets to anyone who wanted them. The Hogo coffee shop, located at 6 Spaska Street, has become a powerful symbol of Ukrainian business resilience during these trying times.
The Unyielding Spirit of the Ukrainian People
As Yaroslav Yemelianenko noted,
“This is how Ukrainian business lives. They support us-please, support them.”
This story vividly illustrates how Ukrainians continue to fight for their lives and support one another, even in the darkest moments. Meanwhile, experimental 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles have been recorded striking Bila Tserkva, signaling that military operations in the region are far from over.
These events once again highlight the resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people, who strive to rebuild their lives and businesses despite immense hardship. Attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure-including businesses and cultural landmarks-are part of a broader military strategy aimed at destabilizing the country. The ongoing shelling underscores the severity of the situation and the challenges Ukrainians face during wartime. Still, stories like Yevgen’s demonstrate the determination of local entrepreneurs and the community’s willingness to recover and support each other through these difficult times.
The recent attack on Yevgen's café is just one example of the widespread devastation caused by ongoing military actions in Ukraine.
