Up to 12 Years in Prison for Kyiv Resident Involved in Cocaine Supply Ring
Kyiv Man Arrested for Drug Trafficking
According to Главком: A 35-year-old resident of Kyiv faces up to 12 years behind bars after law enforcement dismantled a cocaine supply chain he had set up from a European country into the Ukrainian capital. His arrest took place during the second phase of the Rubicon anti-drug special operation. Authorities seized narcotics with an estimated street value of around 3 million Ukrainian hryvnias.
The suspect was caught red-handed as he collected another shipment of cocaine sent via postal delivery. Officers from the Kyiv police headquarters' drug crime unit, together with the national Department for Combating Drug Crime and investigators from the Darnytskyi district police, identified and apprehended the individual. He managed a private messaging channel where he personally sold drugs in hand-to-hand transactions. Payment was accepted both in cash and through non-cash methods, including bank cards and cryptocurrency wallets.
Search Warrants and Drug Seizures
A search of the man's apartment uncovered alpha-PVP, cannabis, kratom, LSD, and cannabis-infused confectionery items. The total estimated value of the confiscated substances is roughly 3 million hryvnias. Investigators from the Darnytskyi police department, under the procedural guidance of the Darnytskyi District Prosecutor's Office, have charged him under Article 307, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This charge carries a penalty of up to twelve years in prison along with asset forfeiture. The court has ordered pretrial detention with no possibility of posting bail.
It is worth noting that the first phase of the Rubicon special operation took place in February, during which over 500 searches were conducted across 21 regions of the country. That effort led to the exposure of four organized criminal groups and one criminal organization specializing in the production and distribution of synthetic cathinones, including alpha-PVP, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and mephedrone.
The arrest of this Kyiv resident is part of a broader, ongoing crackdown on drug-related crime by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies. The Rubicon operation highlights the government's commitment to uncovering and shutting down drug supply routes, as well as dismantling organized criminal networks involved in drug manufacturing and distribution. This case underscores the importance of interagency coordination in successfully combating drug trafficking.
The recent arrest of the Kyiv resident highlights a broader crackdown on drug-related activities in the region. In a related operation, authorities have successfully dismantled four drug laboratories, resulting in the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately 70 million hryvnias. This ongoing effort underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in combating drug trafficking.
