A Kyiv Woman Bought an Old Village House for $5,000 and Called It Freedom

Old house in village for 5 thousand
Жителька Києва придбала старий будинок у селі за $5,000 та назвала його символом волі.

Leaving the City Behind

According to Главком: Vladyslava, a resident of Kyiv, relocated with her family from the city center to a rural village, where she purchased an old house for five thousand dollars. The property comes with all essential utilities: gas, water, electricity, and a small septic system. Along with the home, the new owners also acquired an orchard, a vegetable garden, a summer kitchen, and separate structures for chickens and horses.

For Vladyslava, moving to the countryside was more than just a change of address-it marked a new chapter in her life. She now experiences a genuine sense of freedom that village living brings. However, adapting to this new lifestyle has not been without its challenges:

“We’re struggling like crazy and thinking: Why did we get ourselves into all this?”

This family’s move reflects a growing trend among Ukrainians to leave urban areas for rural life. Many are drawn to the countryside for its benefits, including:

  • fresh air
  • more space
  • opportunities for gardening or raising livestock

Shifting Social and Economic Patterns

The increasing shift from cities to rural areas may be linked to the rise of remote work and a desire for a calmer, more self-sufficient lifestyle. This movement could significantly reshape Ukraine’s social and economic landscape, particularly by revitalizing villages and boosting local agriculture. As Ukrainians change how and where they live, new opportunities for investment and infrastructure development in rural regions may emerge.
