According to Главком: The National Sanctuary 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra' has announced a temporary halt to guided tours and general public access. This decision was prompted by severe weather conditions and a critical drop in air temperature across Kyiv. The sanctuary had previously been closed to visitors from January 23 due to a lack of heating.

Furthermore, during an attack on the capital on the night of January 24, several structures within the Lavra complex sustained damage. Specifically affected were:

• Building No. 66, which serves as the entrance to the Far Caves complex;
• Building No. 67, housing the Church of the Conception of St. Anne.

The blast wave shattered numerous windows and doors and damaged sections of decorative plasterwork. This incident occurred during a massive, combined assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region by the Russian Federation, which involved:

• six 'Iskander' ballistic missiles;
• two 3M22 'Zircon' hypersonic missiles;
• approximately two 9M727 cruise missiles;
• around four Kh-32 cruise missiles.

Sanctuary's Partial Reopening and Subsequent Closure

The National Sanctuary 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra' partially resumed operations on January 31, allowing access only to the grounds of the Upper Lavra while its exhibition halls and bell tower remained shut. This UNESCO World Heritage site, a cornerstone of Eastern Orthodox Christianity and Ukrainian culture, is now closing once more due to the extreme frost, which poses significant risks to visitor safety and comfort.

The repeated closures of the 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra' underscore the dual threats facing Ukraine's cultural heritage: the immediate dangers of war and the harsh realities of winter. The damage from shelling highlights the ongoing vulnerability of historical sites during the conflict.
