According to Главком: Kyiv has restored its water supply, but officials report that low pressure persists in several districts of the city. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that repair crews are working around the clock to restore the power infrastructure, which was knocked out by shelling that also damaged critical water facilities. These attacks are part of Russia's ongoing campaign to target Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, particularly during the winter months.

As of the evening of January 20, over one million consumers in Kyiv remain without electricity, which complicates the full restoration of water services. However, the capital has received 49 of 55 planned generators, which will help improve the energy situation. Furthermore, Kyiv has secured an agreement with GIZ to receive two co-generation units, which are expected to arrive in the city next week.

Action Plan and Current Results

Denys Shmyhal noted that the water supply system is regaining its necessary operational parameters, though some areas continue to experience reduced pressure.

“We have a clear plan. Start-up operations will continue throughout the night,” the minister emphasized.

Consequently, Kyiv is seeing a gradual recovery of its water supply, although a number of tasks must still be completed to fully resolve the issue.
