Charges Filed Over Illegal Firearms Sales

According to Прокуратура Київ: The Obolonsky District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv has formally charged a city resident for orchestrating an unlawful trade in firearms and their components. The accused faces prosecution under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigations revealed that he sold parts for automatic and short-barreled firearms that had been converted for combat use.

Authorities established that the suspect used parcel lockers and falsified personal information, including fake questionnaires and mobile phone numbers, to ship weapon parts to buyers across different regions. Two shipments were documented, containing components of foreign-made automatic rifled weapons with factory serial numbers removed. The total proceeds from these illegal sales amounted to 196,000 hryvnias.

Legal Consequences

The accused’s actions are classified as unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives. The indictment has been forwarded to the court for a substantive hearing. Under the relevant statute, the offender faces imprisonment ranging from three to seven years.

This case highlights the broader challenge Ukraine faces in combating the illegal firearms trade, a significant concern for law enforcement agencies.
