Service Disruptions on the Kyiv Metro

According to Главком: Service on the Kyiv Metro has been severely restricted, with the Red and Green lines now operating under manual, dispatcher-controlled schedules.

A massive overnight attack on the capital caused a critical power shortage in Kyiv's energy grid, forcing the metro to limit service on these two lines. Train movements are now manually coordinated by dispatchers, with the number of trains in operation directly dependent on the available power supply to the system's operator.

Affected Stations and Service Intervals

A severe electricity shortage has led to major restrictions on the Red Line. The following above-ground stations have been temporarily closed:

  • Lisova
  • Chernihivska
  • Hidropark
  • Dnipro

On the Green Line, service changes are due to both the power deficit and physical damage to infrastructure fencing from the overnight shelling.

Under the current dispatcher-controlled regime, trains are running on two separate sections: Syrets–Vydubychi and Obolon–Chervonyi Khutir. Service is operating on the following intervals:

  • From Akademmistechko to Arsenalna – 7–9 minutes
  • From Darnytsia to Livoberezhna and Arsenalna – 12 minutes

Russian forces attacked Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight with drones and missiles. The assault resulted in one fatality and left several others wounded. The situation in the city remains tense, with the metro disruptions forming part of a wider crisis in the capital's energy supply. These ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure are a hallmark of Russia's invasion, now in its third year.

The Kyiv Metro restrictions underscore the consequences of the ongoing war in Ukraine and its impact on civilian infrastructure.

The electricity shortfall and damage to infrastructure from the attacks are creating significant difficulties for the capital's residents. In wartime conditions, maintaining critical services like public transport is vital for ensuring population mobility and supporting stability in the city.
