According to Главком: In mid-April, the O.V. Fomin Botanical Garden in Kyiv is a major draw for tourists, thanks to the spectacular blooming of its magnolias and azaleas. Yet, behind this floral beauty, the park grapples with significant upkeep problems. Visitors can spot uncollected litter, a tree uprooted by a storm, and many older trees heavily infested with mistletoe.

A survey of the grounds revealed piles of last year's leaves mixed with household trash accumulated near the garden's fence. Deeper in the park, the uprooted tree remains, with an old mattress visible beneath it. The widespread mistletoe infestation in the canopies of mature trees raises serious concerns about their health. Furthermore, on busy weekends, the public waste bins overflow quickly due to the high volume of visitors.

Immaculate Alpine Garden and City-Wide Cleanup Campaign

In contrast to these issues, the garden's alpine hill, located in a section closed to the public, is maintained in perfect condition. Concurrently, Kyiv is running its annual two-month spring campaign for urban improvement, landscaping, and sanitation, which continues until May 15. During this period, garden staff are making efforts to maintain order. A worker was observed collecting and hauling away large bundles of waste, indicating ongoing attempts to improve the site's condition.

The Fomin Botanical Garden, one of Ukraine's oldest and most important scientific institutions, has become a particularly popular destination this season because of the magnolia and azalea blooms. However, resolving the existing maintenance problems is crucial to enhancing the overall visitor experience.
