Kyivstar Moves Forward with Network Modernization

According to Главком: Ukraine's mobile operator Kyivstar has announced a new phase in its network upgrade, which involves gradually phasing out 3G technology and shifting subscribers to 4G/LTE standards. The changes will begin rolling out after midnight on May 26. This decision affects several areas across the country, including parts of the Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions.

4G Expansion Reaches New Cities and Towns

Starting May 29, the 4G rollout will cover a range of cities and districts, such as:

  • Varash
  • Volodymyrets
  • Mykolaiv
  • Ochakiv
  • Kobleve
  • Kharkiv
  • Pisochyn
  • Liubotyn
  • Derhachi

This transition will be carried out gradually to ensure a smooth experience for users. Most modern smartphones support 4G/LTE automatically, but owners of older devices may need to manually configure their network settings.

For Apple smartphones, the network is configured automatically once mobile data is enabled, simplifying the process for users. If a SIM card does not support 4G, it can be replaced free of charge at service centers, with the phone number being preserved. It is also worth noting that other Ukrainian operators, such as Vodafone Ukraine and Lifecell, have also announced their own transitions to modern communication standards.

Moving from 3G to 4G/LTE is a crucial step toward improving call quality and providing users with faster internet access. This shift also mirrors a global trend in telecommunications network modernization, enabling a wider range of services and applications, particularly in the context of digital technology growth. It is expected that over time, all operators in Ukraine will continue adopting new technologies, ensuring competitiveness in the telecom market.
