Ukraine Men’s National Basketball Team: Upcoming Friendlies

According to Главком: Kyivstar TV will broadcast the Ukrainian men’s national basketball team’s exhibition games against Angola and Lithuania. These matches are part of the squad’s preparations for the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The Ukrainian team has begun its training camp, which includes two friendly contests: the first takes place on June 25 against Angola, and the second on June 28 against Lithuania.

Both friendlies will be held at the Xiaomi Arena in Latvia. The Angola game is scheduled for June 25 at 7:00 PM, while the Lithuania matchup will tip off on June 28 at 7:30 PM at the Šiauliai Arena in Šiauliai. In Ukraine, both games will be available for free on Kyivstar TV.

Road to Qualification

Ukraine’s men’s team is gearing up for crucial qualifying contests. On July 2, the squad will face Georgia in a nominally home game at the Xiaomi Arena in Riga, followed by a July 5 meeting with Denmark in Copenhagen. During the 2027 World Cup qualifying campaign, Ukraine has already played several matches, including a 78:64 loss to Spain in the fourth round.

In the third qualifying round, Ukraine also fell to Spain, this time by a decisive 86:66 margin. However, the team bounced back in the second round with an important 88:71 victory over Denmark. Ukraine opened its qualifying campaign against Georgia, securing a 92:79 win. The top scorer in that contest was Oleksandr Kovliar, who tallied 31 points over 37 minutes.

These exhibitions against Angola and Lithuania will thus serve as a vital part of the preparation for qualification, promising to be both intense and engaging.

The friendlies are critical for Ukraine as the team looks to sharpen its performance ahead of the qualifiers. Given the mixed results so far-wins alongside losses-the coaching staff will likely use these games to experiment with tactics and lineups. Strong showings against Angola and Lithuania could boost player confidence before the tougher challenges in qualification. It is essential for the squad to find its rhythm and set a positive tone for the upcoming matches.

As the team prepares for their crucial matches, fans may also be interested in the recently announced roster for the upcoming games against Georgia and Denmark.
