Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov dreamed of connecting his life with the military from childhood. He confessed this in an interview with Ramina Eskhakzai, according to 'Glavkom'.

Budanov also admitted that his ancestors were military, and during World War II, some of them were scouts. He was born in Kyiv and grew up in a city in the Dnipro region.

When asked by the journalist about his feelings upon being appointed as the head of the GUR, Budanov replied that he was happy. He also added that he got used to working in intelligence, having joined at the age of 20 and spent most of his life there. Furthermore, Budanov emphasized the importance of protecting his homeland and helping the army, believing that it is difficult for citizens who do not want to do this to call themselves Ukrainians.

In his interview, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate reminds us of his military heritage and sense of patriotism, which became the foundation for serving in intelligence. According to Budanov, it is important to support the army and defend one’s country, considering this a kind of determinant of Ukrainian national identity.
