AI for ADANES Roadmap Presented at WAIC

According to НВ — Техно: On July 20, 2026, at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, researchers from the Institute of Modern Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences introduced the "AI for ADANES" roadmap. This system integrates nuclear fuel processing, spent fuel transmutation, and electricity generation into a single subcritical platform. To support engineering validation of ADANES, the country is constructing the CiADS national science and technology infrastructure.

During the forum, the AI for ADANES Alliance was formed, bringing together research institutes, nuclear energy enterprises, financial institutions, and AI companies. The roadmap merges data and physical models into a triple-drive paradigm. Its architecture consists of five layers:

  • unified data infrastructure,
  • physical world models,
  • physical system control,
  • intelligent agent coordination,
  • continuous evolution.
Wang Shoujun, one of the project representatives, stated: 'Artificial intelligence will play a key role throughout the entire lifecycle of nuclear energy, improving quality, efficiency, and safety.'

The push to integrate AI into nuclear energy could fundamentally reshape how the sector is managed and developed. The unveiling of this roadmap at WAIC highlights the growing importance of merging cutting-edge technologies with traditional industries.

The formation of a cross-sector alliance is expected to foster knowledge exchange and innovation, potentially accelerating progress in nuclear energy with a focus on safety and efficiency. Applying AI to this field opens up new opportunities to improve management processes and reduce risks associated with nuclear power.
