Joint Patrols with a Humanoid Robot

According to НВ — Техно: Law enforcement in China has begun collaborating with a humanoid robot named Lingxi X2 in the town of Zhangjiang, located in Shanghai's Pudong district. The first joint patrol program was launched on May 25 at 7:50 PM. Developed by AgiBot, the robot assists by explaining legal regulations, but all legal decisions remain solely in human hands.

The joint patrol system relies on the interaction of several components:

  • A smart drone detects violations;
  • Information is transmitted to both officers and the Lingxi X2 robot.

AgiBot emphasized that the humanoid is not intended to replace police officers but serves as an intelligent assistant, helping to reduce the volume of repetitive tasks.

Effectiveness of the New Initiative

Pudong official Pan Weijia stated that this represents “an effective enhancement of our capabilities” for frontline police. Pan Helin, a member of the Expert Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, noted that the practice of human-robot joint law enforcement in Shanghai “demonstrates China's active push to transition humanoid robots from merely being able to move to being able to work effectively.” The pilot project aims to lay the groundwork for expanding similar systems in the future.

This initiative to integrate humanoid robots into China’s law enforcement system highlights the growing role of technology in public safety. Human-robot joint patrols could become a new standard in crime prevention, especially in densely populated urban areas where rapid response is critical. Against the backdrop of increasing automation across various sectors of public life, the experience from this pilot project may serve as a model for other countries adopting similar innovative approaches. Thus, China continues to remain at the forefront of technological change in the world of law enforcement.

As technology continues to evolve, the deployment of robotic officers for traffic management in various cities showcases a similar trend in law enforcement. This growing integration of robotics not only enhances efficiency but also sets a precedent for future advancements in public safety initiatives.
