New Leadership Appointed in Donetsk Region

According to Главком: During a visit to the Donetsk region, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, introduced new heads for the regional branches of the National Police and the State Emergency Service (SES). Mykola Matviienko has been appointed as the new head of the Donetsk regional police, while Yakov Nemikin will lead the regional SES. Both officials possess extensive experience serving in the Donetsk oblast and have a deep understanding of the region's specific challenges.

Ihor Klymenko emphasized that 'Mykola Matviienko will head the Donetsk police, and Yakov Nemikin will lead the regional SES. Both have served for many years in the Donetsk region and are well-acquainted with its challenges.'

The minister's visit included an operational briefing with commanders from the National Guard, the State Border Guard Service, and the police. The situation on the front lines was reported by Denys Prokopenko, commander of the 'Azov' 1st Corps of the National Guard. Klymenko also held meetings with regional and frontline community leadership.

Creation of New Military Units

A key development was the minister's signing of an order to form new regiments within the National Guard. These units will be dedicated to unmanned aerial systems (drones) and airspace defense. This strategic move is designed to enhance several critical areas:

  • Civilian safety,
  • Rapid response to emerging threats,
  • Protection of military personnel,
  • And improved coordination with local authorities and other security and defense forces.

The appointment of new regional leaders for the police and SES in Donetsk marks a significant step toward stabilizing a region that has faced prolonged security challenges. Given their experience, these appointments are expected to improve the effectiveness of law enforcement and emergency services, which is vital for local communities. The establishment of the new National Guard regiments further underscores the state's commitment to strengthening regional defense capabilities and security. These reforms come as Ukraine continues to adapt its military and civil defense structures to the demands of a protracted conflict.
