Roman Pavlyuchenko Added to 'Peacemaker' Database

According to Главком: Former Russian national team footballer Roman Pavlyuchenko has been added to the 'Peacemaker' website database. This action stems from his participation in a children's football forum titled 'Champions of Winners,' held on September 17, 2022, in Khimki, Russia. The event was notable for including children from Ukrainian territories under Russian occupation. The forum was organized by Denis Ignatov, head of the board of trustees for the 'Wind of Good Changes' charity foundation.

Roman Pavlyuchenko's Career and Other Athletes' Involvement

Pavlyuchenko, a former striker for Russia's national team and London's Tottenham Hotspur, attended the forum which also planned to host children from occupied Ukrainian regions and children of participants in Russia's invasion. His distinguished career includes being a three-time Russian Premier League runner-up with Spartak Moscow, a Russian Cup winner, a semi-finalist in Euro 2008, and a finalist in the 2009 English League Cup. He earned 50 caps for Russia, scoring 21 international goals.

In related news, the Russian speed skater Alexandra Sautina, recognized as a neutral athlete by the International Skating Union (ISU), attended Vladimir Putin's annual address to the Federal Assembly on February 29, 2024. Russian cross-country skier Veronika Stepanova posted an Instagram photo confirming Sautina's presence at the event, which was also attended by Putin's allies and Russian military personnel involved in the war against Ukraine.

Pavlyuchenko's listing on the 'Peacemaker' database underscores his involvement in an event linked to supporting Russian aggression in Ukraine. The 'Peacemaker' database is a non-governmental Ukrainian site that documents individuals considered threats to national security. This incident highlights the increasing scrutiny by international observers on figures whose participation in charitable or sporting initiatives may be connected to political or military contexts. The involvement of high-profile athletes in such forums can significantly impact their public reputation and standing.
