Vasyl Malyuk Attends Public Event Following Resignation

According to Главком: Former head of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), Vasyl Malyuk, has made his first public appearance since stepping down from his post. He attended a pre-release screening of the film 'Killhouse', an event organized by the Third Assault Corps. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko was also present at the screening. The film is notable for featuring cameo appearances by Malyuk himself, Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov, and former MP and military commander Andriy Biletsky.

Malyuk appears in the film's final scenes. It is worth noting that he formally submitted his resignation as SBU chief on January 5, 2026. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Malyuk for his combat service, highlighting the significance of his contributions to national security. His public appearance so soon after leaving a top security post is being closely watched by observers.

“I am leaving the post of Chairman of the Security Service. I remain within the SBU system to implement world-class asymmetric special operations, which will continue to inflict maximum damage on the enemy. I am convinced that a strong and modern special service is the key to our state's security. The changes being implemented by the President of Ukraine in the defense sector are aimed at this, and I thank him for it. I believe in a just peace and the flourishing of Ukraine. With great gratitude for the support – to the Service's team, all my combat brothers, and the people of Ukraine. Eternal honor to those who gave their lives for our future.”

Vasyl Malyuk's Continued Role

This public event marks a significant moment for Vasyl Malyuk, who continues his activities within the Security Service despite resigning from its leadership. His resignation and subsequent involvement in 'Killhouse' signal the former security chief's ongoing active role in domestic security affairs.

Despite the change in his official status, his statements and appearances demonstrate a clear and ongoing commitment to Ukraine's defense. Given his remarks about implementing asymmetric special operations, it is evident he remains a key player within the national security apparatus. This is likely to influence future developments in the country's defense and security landscape, as he transitions to a different operational capacity.
