'Progressive Bulgaria' Party Claims Landslide Win

According to Главком: According to preliminary results from Bulgaria's Central Election Commission (CEC), the 'Progressive Bulgaria' party, led by former President Rumen Radev, has won a decisive victory in the country's snap parliamentary elections. The party secured 44.48% of the vote, which translates to over 1.1 million ballots. This result marks a significant shift in Bulgaria's political landscape, which has been characterized by instability and frequent elections in recent years.

Rumen Radev, who served as Bulgaria's president until leaving office in January 2026, thanked voters for the clear mandate.

"'Progressive Bulgaria' has won an indisputable victory. This is a triumph of hope over distrust, of freedom over fear, and ultimately, of morality. The people have rejected the arrogance and complacency of the old parties. They did not succumb to lies and manipulation. Thank you for your trust! We will discuss everything else after the final results," stated Rumen Radev.

A Shift in Bulgaria's Political Direction

The snap elections were held amid the rising prominence of 'Progressive Bulgaria,' a party known for its Eurosceptic views and its ambiguous stance on the war in Ukraine, often opposing military aid. With over 78% of voting protocols processed by the CEC, the party's success appears confirmed. This outcome signals a potential reorientation of Bulgaria's foreign policy, which could impact its relations with the European Union and its approach to the ongoing conflict.

The victory underscores a desire for change among Bulgarian voters, who have chosen a new approach to governance. As a major player in the future parliament, 'Progressive Bulgaria' is poised to influence not only the country's foreign policy but also domestic reforms aimed at improving citizens' lives, all while navigating complex international relationships.

The recent electoral success of Rumen Radev's party not only highlights a significant shift in Bulgarian politics but also raises questions about its implications for the country's governance. As the newly elected officials prepare to take office, a closer look at how Radev's party is approaching its parliamentary majority could provide insights into the future direction of Bulgaria's policies, both domestically and internationally.
