Disappearance of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade's Commander

According to ХВИЛЯ: Stanislav Luchanov, the commander of Ukraine's 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, has vanished and is now being sought by authorities. This follows the arrest of several of his subordinates on suspicion of kidnapping and killing two civilians. Reports indicate that Luchanov left his unit without authorization, and law enforcement officials are currently working to locate him while also launching a formal investigation into the matter.

Investigation and Arrests

Nine soldiers from the brigade, including a battalion commander, have already been detained on kidnapping charges. Investigators believe a personal dispute triggered the incident: Luchanov allegedly took offense after his wife was insulted by the two victims. According to the probe, the brigade commander ordered his men to deal with the two brothers, who were residents of the Kyiv region.

The abduction occurred on the night of June 28, when military personnel seized the two men from the village of Kalynivka. They were then transported to the Poltava region, where they were later killed. The bodies of the victims have since been exhumed. Luchanov took command of the 155th Brigade in February 2026; prior to that, he served as chief of staff for the 425th Regiment "Skelya." The brigade commander is currently on the run and evading capture.

This case has sparked widespread public outcry, raising serious concerns about discipline and ethical standards within the military, especially amid ongoing conflict. The outcome of the investigation could significantly impact public trust in military institutions and their ability to maintain order and protect civilians. The developments in this case may have far-reaching consequences for both the brigade and the broader armed forces.

The troubling situation within the military is not isolated, as evidenced by a recent case involving another unit. A member of the 'Skelya' Regiment has been ordered into pretrial detention for allegedly assaulting fellow soldiers, highlighting ongoing issues of discipline and accountability in Ukraine's armed forces. This context underscores the gravity of the investigation surrounding Luchanov and its implications for military integrity.
