Wedding Bells, Then the Front: ‘Raid’ Battalion Commander Yevhen Karas and Actress Kateryna Shvedenko Tie the Knot
A Wartime Wedding for a Battalion Commander and a Theater Actress
According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Yevhen Karas, who commands the 413th separate unmanned systems battalion ‘Raid’, and Kateryna Shvedenko, known for her work at the Cult Theater, became husband and wife on July 31. The event carried a solemn, celebratory tone, and among those in attendance was Dmytro Korchynsky, the leader of the Brotherhood party, who posted photographs from the occasion on Facebook.
Karas skipped the traditional suit in favor of his military uniform, while Shvedenko opted for a long white lace dress and a classic veil. Their relationship stretches back more than two years; last July, Shvedenko publicly marked their anniversary with a message to Karas.
A Short Celebration, Then Service
Rather than leaving for a conventional honeymoon, the newlyweds headed to the front soon after the ceremony. Korchynsky described the day as follows:
“I attended the wedding of Yevhen Karas and Kateryna Shvedenko today. There was a brief celebration, and in the evening the couple departed on their wedding trip to the front. Everything went well.” - Dmytro Korchynsky
This wedding is not only a personal milestone for the couple but also a reflection of wartime Ukraine, where many service members keep performing their duties even at the most important moments of private life. The ceremony has become a symbol of loyalty both to one another and to their country, as personal happiness and military service converge in the same lived reality.
