The European Parliament has decided to launch a new digital border system called the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will change the procedure for crossing EU borders for third-country nationals. According to the press service of the European Parliament, the system will automatically register travelers' data, including personal information, document type, location of border crossing, and biometric data. EES will cover all individuals using short-term visas or crossing the border under a visa-free regime.According to the schedule, the system will be fully rolled out on day 170, with a gradual coverage of 35% of users by day 90. The European Parliament and the EU Council have agreed on the final draft of the legislative act for the implementation of the system, which will come into force three days after publication in the Official Journal of the EU. Each member state has 60 days to develop a national implementation strategy after the common plan is created. Currently, the active phase of EES deployment is expected to begin this autumn.
