Artists Banned from Entering Latvia

According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Latvia has permanently barred former 1990s stars Vladimir Danilets and Vladimir Moiseenko-once part of the comedy duo 'Kroliki'-from entering the country. The indefinite ban was signed by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže. The performers have been declared persona non grata due to their involvement in pro-Russian propaganda activities.

Danilets and Moiseenko have been listed in the Ukrainian 'Myrotvorets' database since 2019, where they are accused of knowingly participating in propaganda efforts for the Russian Federation. Notably, the comedians took an active role in video link broadcasts with Russian channels, including the 'We Need to Talk' telebridge between Russia and Ukraine, organized by an anti-Ukrainian propaganda outlet.

Reasons Behind the Ban

Under Article 61, Part 2 of Latvia's Immigration Law, Foreign Minister Baija Braže decided to add both individuals to the list of persons banned from entering the Republic of Latvia. This measure highlights Latvia's growing concern over the spread of Russian propaganda within its borders.

The entry ban on Danilets and Moiseenko is part of Latvia's broader strategy to counter Russian influence and disinformation. Amid rising geopolitical tensions and security threats, Latvian authorities are actively working to protect the country’s information space. This decision also aligns with a wider trend across the Baltic states, which are seeking to limit the impact of pro-Russian elements in their societies.
