Latvia Blocks Wildberries and Seven Other Russian Websites Over National Security Concerns

Латвія закриває доступ до Wildberries та ще семи російських сайтів через загрози національній безпеці.

Latvia Restricts Access to Russian Online Platforms

According to Главком: Citing threats to national security, Latvia’s National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) has decided to block eight Russian websites, including the widely used e-commerce platform Wildberries and several other online services. Regulators expressed concern that these resources 'promote a positive image of Russia,' prompting the crackdown.

List of Blocked Websites

The banned platforms include:

  • Wildberries
  • RBC Companies
  • Labirint
  • AST Publishing House
  • LiveLib
  • Championat
  • Soviet Sport
  • V1 from Volgograd

Latvian authorities noted that Wildberries sells items featuring Russian symbols, which further justified the ban.

The NEPLP’s decision can be appealed within one month. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Latvia has consistently restricted access to Russian media and online services, blocking dozens of sites in 2025 and 2026.

In a related development, Latvia’s State Security Service has detained at least three individuals linked to the group Antifašisti Baltijas (Antifascists of the Baltic). The organization is accused of operating an informant network that passed details about military equipment movements, Ukrainians, and pro-Ukraine supporters in Latvia to Russian intelligence agencies.

Latvia’s decision to block Russian websites underscores the country’s ongoing concerns about Russian propaganda and the protection of national interests.

This move reflects a broader trend of tightening control over the information space that has persisted since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, the arrest of Antifašisti Baltijas members highlights active efforts by Latvian law enforcement to counter potential threats from Russian intelligence services, signaling the seriousness of the situation in the region.

In light of recent actions against Russian online platforms, Latvia's government remains vigilant in addressing disinformation efforts. This follows their formal protest to Russia regarding misleading narratives about the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
