Sergei Lavrov’s Statement on the Collapse of Hopes for the West

According to Главком: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that expectations of the West acting as a mediator in the war against Ukraine have failed. He expressed the belief that Western nations should no longer be taken seriously, as their actions indicate a refusal to play an effective mediating role. Lavrov also noted that sanctions pressure on Russia is increasing, and all statements from Western countries boil down to demands for Moscow’s capitulation.

Peace and Negotiations Update

Lavrov emphasized that the final declaration of the G7 summit in Évian only mentions providing weapons to Ukraine and tightening sanctions, while the words “peace” and “settlement” do not appear in the documents. He claimed that the West seeks a ceasefire solely to rearm Ukraine and deploy the so-called Coalition of the Willing. Lavrov also stated that Europe is becoming the main threat to peace and security, and that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is being pushed to the forefront of the war against Russia.

Despite this, Russia is prepared to resume negotiations with Ukraine from the point where they left off. In this context, U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dan Negrea, called on both sides to return to the negotiating table, stressing that the United States supports Ukraine and its people in defending their freedom and sovereignty.

Lavrov also referred to the summit in Alaska, saying he does not even want to think that it was designed to buy time for arming Kyiv. He added:

“I don’t even want to think that the Alaska summit was intended to buy time for arming Kyiv, but in reality, things turned out as they did.” - Sergei Lavrov

At the same time, Russian propagandists have begun modeling the loss of Crimea, and special operations forces reported the destruction of a railway bridge across the North Crimean Canal.

The news also mentions Russian strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure and cultural heritage, including attacks on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. These events continue to highlight the tension in relations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the role of international actors in this conflict.

It is worth noting that Lavrov’s statement reflects not only Russia’s position but also the growing tension in international relations related to the war in Ukraine. Moscow’s refusal to engage in constructive dialogue calls into question the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict, while Western countries continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty. The situation on the front lines and in the diplomatic arena remains extremely complex, and further actions by all sides could have serious consequences for regional security.

In light of Lavrov's comments on the West's failed mediation efforts, it's crucial to consider the escalating tensions in the region. Recent developments, such as the drone attack on Moscow, have prompted Lavrov to issue warnings of potential retaliatory strikes.
