E3-Ukraine Leadership Talks

According to ХВИЛЯ: On June 7, during an E3-Ukraine format meeting, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held discussions. The leaders reaffirmed their backing for Ukraine and agreed on the prerequisites needed to bring the conflict to a close. They called for an immediate ceasefire and addressed the freezing of Russian assets until hostilities cease and damages are compensated.

The meeting saw condemnation of Russia's large-scale missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities, with specific mention of the repeated use of Oreshnik missiles and dangerous incursions by Russian drones into NATO airspace. Coordination of support was also discussed for the upcoming G7 summit in Évian and the next meeting of the Coalition of the Willing. Additionally, the NATO summit scheduled in Ankara was raised.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy: 'For five consecutive months, the aggressor has been losing over 30,000 troops killed and wounded.'

The leaders agreed that the current line of contact should serve as the starting point for any future negotiations.

War Termination Conditions

As part of the conditions to end the war, Ukraine is to receive legally binding security guarantees once a truce is reached. Plans also include deploying a Multinational Force to support Ukraine. The leaders stressed the need to:

  • intensify pressure on Russia's war economy;
  • ramp up production of interceptor missiles;
  • jointly develop anti-missile and long-range capabilities.

The talks took place amid ongoing Russian aggression, and the leaders expressed hope for a swift resolution to the conflict and the restoration of peace in the region.

These discussions underscore the importance of international support for Ukraine in the face of escalating Russian aggression. The E3 leaders confirmed their resolve on security matters and economic pressure against the aggressor, signaling a readiness for further coordinated action on a global scale. The outlined conditions for ending the war could lay the groundwork for a more lasting peace, though their implementation depends on frontline developments and Russia's willingness to engage in negotiations.

The ongoing discussions highlight the critical juncture in the conflict, especially as leaders emphasize the need for legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine. This situation is further complicated by the missed opportunities for Russia, as noted by President Zelenskyy, who argues that Putin's failure to negotiate favorable terms could have lasting implications for the war's resolution.
