Joint Evacuation Strategy Between Lithuania and Poland

This strategy also considers the potential relocation of residents from other Baltic states through Poland's border. The plan is being tested during the extensive mobilization exercise "Vyčio skliautas 2026," taking place in Lithuania from September 25 to October 3, 2026. Approximately 150 institutions, 3,000 government officials, municipal representatives, and public servants, along with about 1,000 volunteers, are participating in these exercises.

The drills assess the entire evacuation process-from alerting the population to organizing departures and accommodating evacuees across various regions. Actual evacuation involves only volunteers who have registered for the event. Law enforcement agencies are evaluating traffic management, evacuation routes, and the separation of civilian and military transportation flows.

Exercise Objectives and Simulated Scenarios

A key focus of the drills is to evaluate the capacity of infrastructure for moving people through the Poland-Lithuania border, with special emphasis on the strategically vital Suwałki Corridor. This corridor connects Poland and Lithuania and serves as a critical link between the Baltic countries and other NATO territories. The simulation also includes scenarios such as:
