Human rights organizations estimate that over 1,100 political prisoners remain detained in Belarus. Lukashenko denies the existence of political prisoners in the country. The Trump administration previously sought the release of political detainees, highlighting ongoing international concern. According to Reuters, U.S. President Joe Biden tasked envoy John Cole with discussing prisoner releases during his talks with Lukashenko.

This latest round of pardons may indicate subtle political shifts amid growing international pressure and efforts to improve Belarus's relations with Western nations. The release of political prisoners and willingness to engage with the American delegation suggest that Belarusian authorities might be exploring ways to enhance their global image.
