Lviv Faces Dual Crisis: Drone Strike and Thawing Ice After Heavy Snowfall

Lviv, icicles falling on the streets
Львів страждає від подвійної загрози: наслідки ворожого удару та весняне потепління після сильних снігопадів.

Lviv Grapples with Combined Aftermath of Weather and Attack

According to Главком: A recent rise in temperature to +1°C in Lviv is causing dangerous icicles to fall from rooftops, following heavy snowfall and freezing conditions. Snowdrifts up to ankle-height on sidewalks and roads are severely hindering movement for the city's residents. This situation is a common winter hazard in Ukrainian cities, which often contend with rapid thaws after severe cold.

Compounding the weather crisis, a Russian drone struck a children's playground on Stepan Bandera Street in central Lviv today. The playground was destroyed by fire, though a monument to Bandera nearby was undamaged. In response to this incident, Myтрopolyt Andrey and Sheptytsky Streets have been temporarily closed, and trolleybus routes 27, 32, and 38 have been suspended.

City Responds to Safety and Security Challenges

City authorities are managing the dual challenges of clearing snow and responding to the new security threat. The situation is reportedly under control, but residents are urged to exercise extreme caution due to falling ice and significant transport disruptions.

The combination of a warming trend and the drone attack highlights the complex reality in Lviv, where natural and man-made dangers now intersect. Local officials are actively working to clear the aftermath of the severe weather and ensure public safety, repeatedly advising citizens to remain vigilant.

Additional safety measures, including street closures, are deemed necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
