Lviv Implements State of Emergency Preparedness

According to Главком: On January 29, the city of Lviv initiated a state of emergency preparedness in response to forecasts of severe frost and the threat of strikes against critical infrastructure. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi announced that a powerful Arctic anticyclone will envelop Ukraine starting February 1. He stressed the critical need for readiness from both municipal services and the city's residents.

Andriy Sadovyi stated: 'It is not my job to predict missile attacks or comment on loud statements about an energy truce. What I know for sure is that meteorologists are forecasting severe frost for this weekend. It could be worse than the last one. Our enemy is the type that could exploit this and try to strike the critical infrastructure of our cities. That is why Lviv has activated the emergency preparedness regime. All municipal services know what to do. But it is vital that the city's residents are also prepared.'

Guidance for Residents

In light of these circumstances, the mayor provided several recommendations for residents:

  • Organize and inspect the shelter you plan to use during an air raid alert.
  • Charge power banks and charging stations, but do not leave them unattended while charging.
  • Stock up on a basic supply of essential food items, drinking water, and medicine.
Andriy Sadovyi emphasized: 'If your building loses power or heat, know this: information about the nearest resilience point and all available services will be posted in the building's entrance area and chat. The city has already taken care of this.'

He also urged residents to identify any individuals with disabilities or elderly persons in their building who might require assistance.

Separately, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that 'the Russian terrorist army is preparing for a new strike on Ukraine.' Lviv residents are strongly advised to rely only on official information sources to stay informed of the latest news and guidance during these difficult times. This situation underscores the dual threat Ukrainian cities face from both extreme weather and military aggression.

The activation of the emergency preparedness regime in Lviv occurs against the backdrop of an intensifying military situation in Ukraine, demanding heightened caution and readiness from citizens. The forecast of severe frost and potential attacks on critical infrastructure could significantly disrupt city life, making it essential for residents to follow local authorities' instructions and prepare for various scenarios. In the current situation, ensuring safety and basic living conditions is the top priority. Therefore, proactive measures by the local administration and the residents themselves can substantially mitigate risks during an emergency.
