Lviv Activates Emergency Readiness Amid Deep Freeze and Infrastructure Threat
Lviv on High Alert
According to ХВИЛЯ: The city of Lviv has declared a state of emergency readiness in response to a forecasted severe cold snap and the ongoing threat of Russian strikes on critical infrastructure. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi announced the activation of safety measures, citing meteorologists' predictions of intense frost for the upcoming weekend. This move reflects the dual challenges Ukrainian cities face during winter months, balancing harsh weather with the realities of war.
Municipal utility services have been placed on heightened alert. Authorities have also prepared 'Invincibility Points' to provide assistance to residents if needed. Information on the nearest points and available services will be posted in building entrances and shared in residential chat groups to ensure all citizens have access to these critical details.
Guidance for Residents
Mayor Sadovyi urged residents to check the status of their nearest shelter, ensure power banks and charging stations are fully charged (without leaving them unattended), and stock up on water, food, and medicine. He also recommended checking on elderly neighbors or people with disabilities who may require assistance. He emphasized that in the event of a temporary heating shutdown, residents should not drain water from radiators until specifically instructed to do so by a responsible official.
'My job is not to predict missile strikes or comment on loud statements about an energy truce. What I know for sure is that meteorologists are forecasting a severe frost this weekend. Our enemy is the type that could exploit this and attempt to strike the critical infrastructure of our cities.' - Andriy Sadovyi
The implementation of the readiness regime in Lviv underscores the gravity of the situation confronting the city amid winter conditions and military threat. The activation of safety protocols and preparation for potential emergencies are vital for ensuring public safety. This initiative also highlights the necessity for citizens to act responsibly in critical conditions, which can help mitigate risks and prevent unforeseen situations.
