Moldovan Leader's Stance on Nobel Nomination

According to Главком: Moldovan President Maia Sandu has addressed her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, stating she does not personally seek the accolade. While she appreciates the international focus on Moldova's peace-building efforts, Sandu emphasized that the true heroes are those who sacrifice their lives for peace in their homeland. Moldova, a small Eastern European nation, has faced significant regional instability while hosting a large number of Ukrainian refugees.

“Today I saw Ukrainians who returned home from Russia, and these are the people who deserve a peace prize,” Sandu noted.

She added that those striving to restore peace to their own villages and cities are the ones truly worthy of recognition.

Moldova's Aid Package for Ukraine

Concurrently, the Moldovan government has approved a humanitarian aid package for Ukraine, responding to the severe strain on Ukraine's energy sector following massive attacks by the Russian Federation. The aid, assembled from the State Reserve and resources from units within Moldova's Ministry of Internal Affairs, includes:

  • Supplies for the energy sector
  • Supplies for the medical sector

President Sandu stressed that, above all, Ukrainians deserve peace and she hopes it arrives swiftly. The provision of this humanitarian aid underscores Moldova's commitment to supporting its neighbor during this challenging period. Sandu's statement highlights solidarity with Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict and the critical role of international support for regional peace. While her Nobel nomination reflects recognition of her peace advocacy, she redirects the focus to those directly enduring the war's consequences. This aid delivery represents a further step in strengthening Moldova-Ukraine relations, with potential long-term benefits for regional security and stability.
