According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview marking the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo argued that Europe's current military buildup is designed to counter not only Russia but also China. He pointed out that France and Germany, as Europe's two largest economies, have neglected their own defense for roughly four decades. This perspective comes as NATO members significantly increase their defense spending.

Pompeo noted that NATO member commitments have risen from 2 to 5 percent of GDP, signaling a major shift in the region's security posture. He emphasized that

“For 40 years, they did almost nothing for their own defense,”

“But there is still a long way to go-Europe has done very little for decades.”
