This initiative, reported by Ukrainska Pravda citing Politico, is expected to take place just before the upcoming G7 summit scheduled for next week in Évian-les-Bains, France. As this year’s G7 chair, France has made combating worldwide economic disparities a top priority under its leadership.

Last month, G7 finance ministers convened, with French representative Roland Lescure emphasizing the urgency of this issue. Macron is also working to strengthen ties with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has softened his stance on China following a visit to Beijing, though the White House has not commented on the proposed videoconference. While several heads of state and government are expected to join, the exact level of representation for each country during the online talks has yet to be finalized.

A European Commission official praised Macron’s effort as a positive step but criticized the chosen format, stating it may not be ideal for such dialogue.

‘The G7 is perceived as anything but a neutral party. China would welcome a softer tone from the G7, but not at the cost of admitting that its (overproduction) is a problem,’ the Politico source noted.
