Marta Kostyuk Learns Her First Opponent at the WTA 500 Event in London
Grass-Court Season Begins for Marta Kostyuk
According to Главком: Ukraine’s second-ranked player, Marta Kostyuk, now knows who she will face in her opening match of the grass-court campaign. At the WTA 500 tournament in London, Kostyuk is set to take on 17-year-old British talent Mika Stojsavljevic, currently ranked 288th in the world. This marks Stojsavljevic’s debut in the main draw of a WTA 500 event. She has previously qualified for Wimbledon twice, but exited in the first round on both occasions.
Kostyuk Riding Career-Best Stretch
Kostyuk arrives in London during the most successful phase of her career so far. She claimed the WTA 1000 title in Madrid and strung together 17 consecutive victories on clay. That winning streak ended in the semifinals of Roland Garros, where the Ukrainian fell in straight sets to neutral athlete Mirra Andreeva.
Reflecting on the loss, Kostyuk said: 'Yes, I fought my way back into the match, but my serve wasn’t working properly today. I think I rushed a lot. There was a bit more chaos in my game than usual. I didn’t overthink it-I just tried to play point by point. I was barely focusing on the score.'
Should Kostyuk defeat Stojsavljevic, she will face the winner of the match between Czech player Marie Bouzková and a qualifier in the second round. The main-draw matches of the WTA 500 London event are scheduled from June 8 to June 14, 2026.
Kostyuk has reached the highest milestone of her tennis career, having never before advanced to a Grand Slam semifinal. In the next edition of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, the Ukrainian will rise to world No. 12.
The WTA 500 tournament in London represents a pivotal moment for Marta Kostyuk, who continues to show steady improvement and success on the global stage. A strong performance here would solidify her ranking and build momentum ahead of upcoming competitions, particularly Wimbledon. For many players, the start of the grass-court season is critical, and results at this event can significantly shape the title race for the rest of the year.
