Kyiv Region Targeted in Major Air Assault, Air Defenses Report Interceptions

Air defense system hits enemy targets in Kyiv region
В Київській області відбулися інтенсивні авіаційні удари, системи протиповітряної оборони знову проявили свою ефективність.

Kyiv Hit by Combined Missile and Drone Attack

According to Главком: In the early hours of February 12, the city of Kyiv and the surrounding region came under a large-scale assault involving missiles and drones. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted hostile aerial targets. Despite this, damage was recorded at industrial facilities, private residences, and residential buildings within the capital. Critical infrastructure in the broader region, however, remained intact, and there were no reported civilian casualties.

Aftermath and Damage Assessment

In the Brovary district, production and warehouse facilities at two enterprises sustained damage. Falling debris was also recorded at two private homes. Within Kyiv itself, the attack's consequences were observed at three separate locations in the Dnipro and Darnytsia districts. In Darnytsia, debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) damaged the facade of a multi-story residential building. A jet engine from a drone was even recovered from an apartment on the building's top floor.

The assault also impacted critical infrastructure in Kyiv, leaving nearly 2,600 apartment buildings without heating. Emergency services are currently working at all sites where debris fell. Mykola Kalashnik, a local official, stated:

'The enemy continues its attempts to deprive us of light, heat, and water – basic human needs – by deliberately targeting energy facilities and peaceful population centers.'

This attack is part of the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, which persistently endangers civilians. Such strikes on critical infrastructure are a known tactic intended to sow instability and demoralize the population. The local government's response and the efforts of emergency crews highlight the critical need for rapid action to maintain security and stability in the face of these threats. These assaults have become a grim feature of the war, testing the resilience of Ukraine's cities and their defenders.
