Activist Protests Force Cancellation of Melovin's Tour

According to Главком: Ukrainian pop singer Melovin, whose real name is Kostya Bocharov, has called off his solo tour of Ukraine after facing protests from activists. The decision was made by organizers following a confrontation at a scheduled concert in Rivne. The performance was set for February 17 at the Rivne City Palace of Culture 'Tekstylnyk' but was disrupted by a group wielding signs and slogans opposing same-sex relationships.

The tour was planned to mark the artist's decade-long career, with Melovin intending to donate a portion of ticket sales to support the 'Aidar' battalion. From a single concert, the singer aimed to contribute approximately 150,000 hryvnias for military supplies such as ammunition, winter gear, or FPV drones. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions in Ukrainian society between progressive cultural figures and conservative groups, even as the nation remains at war.

Melovin's Reaction to the Events

Melovin's team, Master how, officially announced the tour's cancellation, stating it was a direct response to the protest in Rivne. The artist himself expressed his outrage over the situation, stating:

“It's sad that people still live with such prejudices. We claim to want to be part of Europe, yet we fail to respect one another. If you hate me, you have that right. But you shouldn't interfere with my work.” - Melovin

The singer also emphasized his deep regret at being unable to deliver the aid to the military: “I feel ashamed before Alina, who has dedicated her life to helping Aidar-her husband died there... And I'm ashamed that, together with my fans, we couldn't get this assistance to the guys.” Melovin added that, if calculated across all six planned concerts, the total sum would have been 'a significant amount,' and expressed hope that the protesting youth would reflect on their actions: “I wish this youth growth and understanding, to realize the serious trouble they have caused.”

Consequently, the cancellation of Melovin's tour resulted from protest actions that hindered the artist's ability to continue his charitable efforts for Ukrainian troops.

The situation surrounding the tour's cancellation underscores complex social and cultural issues within Ukraine. Protests against same-sex relationships point to deep societal divisions that can impede the development of a more tolerant culture. Simultaneously, the artist's withdrawal confirms the critical importance of supporting the military, especially in the context of the ongoing conflict, where many Ukrainian performers actively engage in fundraising initiatives.
