Kharkiv Mayor Terekhiv against gas tariff increase for enterprises: it threatens the economy
Mayor of Kharkiv's position on tariff increases
According to Главком: Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhiv expressed his opposition to the planned increase in gas distribution tariffs for enterprises set by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NERC) starting January 1. He emphasized the negative consequences of such changes for the economy and the city's life support, especially in wartime conditions. Terekhiv pointed out that the promised compensations from the government have not reached Kharkiv for several years, complicating the financial situation for local enterprises.
Consequences of tariff increases
According to the mayor's estimates, the tariff change will lead to a significant increase in the debts of enterprises by hundreds of millions of hryvnias. This could jeopardize business stability and jobs in the city.
“Heat in homes during wartime is not about comfort. It is about safety, about people's lives, and about the resilience of the city.” – Ihor Terekhiv
He also stressed the importance of supporting those enterprises that provide economic activity and jobs.
“We do not have the right to crush those who sustain the economy and jobs.” – Ihor Terekhiv
Terekhiv believes that communal experiments during wartime are inappropriate and may have serious consequences for the population and enterprises of Kharkiv.
In war and economic instability, the position of Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhiv reflects concerns not only about enterprises but also about the social situation in the city. The increase in tariffs may have far-reaching consequences that will affect the provision of basic services to the population, such as heating and energy supply. It is important for state authorities to take into account the real needs of cities and enterprises, as well as to ensure timely compensations to alleviate the financial burden on businesses in the challenging conditions of war.
