Traffic Collision Occurs in Kyiv

According to Главком: A traffic accident involving a Mercedes and a Dacia took place in Kyiv on February 9, 2026, at the intersection of Serzh Lifar and Krainia Streets. The collision was caused by both drivers violating traffic signals. The Mercedes driver proceeded through a red light, while the Dacia driver began moving on a yellow light. The impact caused the Mercedes to flip onto its side. Traffic laws in Ukraine are similar to those in many European countries, but enforcement can be challenging.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the crash. Both vehicles, however, sustained significant mechanical damage. Administrative reports were filed at the scene under Article 124 of Ukraine's Code of Administrative Offenses, and the case materials are being prepared for submission to the court.

Road Accident Statistics for the Kyiv Region

Statistical data shows that in 2025, the Kyiv region recorded 2,101 injury-related traffic accidents. These incidents resulted in 241 fatalities and 2,646 people injured. This recent crash follows other serious road incidents, including one on February 6 on the Kyiv-Odesa highway involving three minibuses, which led to the death of a woman born in 1967 and left two people with serious injuries, trapped inside the vehicles.

Road traffic accidents remain a persistent issue in Ukraine, particularly in major cities where heavy traffic flow can create dangerous situations. The accident statistics for the Kyiv region highlight a need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased driver education. Given the rising number of collisions, greater attention to road safety and driver accountability is critically important.
