Testing a New Calling Feature

According to НВ — Техно: Meta is currently experimenting with a new phone call feature within its AI platform, Muse, by involving human operators to improve call success rates. During one of the trials, an operator made a racist comment, prompting Meta to terminate its collaboration with that individual. The inclusion of human operators initially helped boost call success to over 90%. Meta is continuing to refine this feature and aims to launch it after completing thorough evaluations.

Key Details About the Muse Platform

Launched on September 8, Muse includes a "human concierge" feature that allows operators to intervene in conversations when the AI struggles to manage the call. This approach was developed partly because some companies refused to interact solely with bots, necessitating human involvement. However, following the incident involving the racist remark, Meta decided to halt testing the feature in this human-assisted format.

The Vice President of Meta Superintelligence Labs issued an apology to the affected employee after a complaint was filed regarding the operator's conduct. Meta has not clarified whether phone calls through Muse have been fully suspended or if only the involvement of human operators in testing has ceased. Meta representative Dave Arnold emphasized that:

"Internal testing is essential to identify security and privacy issues." - Dave Arnold

The company remains committed to working with businesses to enhance the feature and plans a broad rollout once all necessary checks and user notifications are in place.

This incident highlights the critical need for maintaining ethical standards and quality control when integrating AI into customer service. As a leading technology firm, Meta bears responsibility not only for innovation but also for upholding proper conduct within its products. Future decisions regarding the testing format could significantly influence user and partner confidence in the Muse platform.

As Meta navigates the complexities of AI integration in customer service, it is also expanding its innovative offerings. The recent announcement of a new AI avatar device, set to launch by December 2026, showcases the company's commitment to enhancing user experience while addressing ethical challenges. This latest development reflects Meta's strategic focus on balancing technology and responsibility.
