Mika Newton’s Comeback

According to Главком: Ukrainian singer Mika Newton-whose real name is Oksana Hrytsay-has moved back to Ukraine after living in the United States for an extended period. She recently shared rehearsal footage online, signaling that she is actively preparing for new creative projects. Newton first rose to fame in 2011 when she represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf, finishing in 4th place with her song 'Angel'.

Originally from the city of Burshtyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, Hrytsay adopted the stage name Mika Newton in the early 2000s. Soon after, she began working closely with producer Yuriy Falosa. Her catalog includes tracks such as:

  • 'V plenu'
  • 'Anomaliya'
  • 'Lunopark'
  • 'Shokoladnyy badi'

She also recorded soundtrack songs for the popular TV series 'Cadets' (original title: Kadetstvo).

Career Journey and Personal Life

Following her Eurovision appearance, Newton relocated to Los Angeles, California, where she continued pursuing music. In 2018, she married American businessman Chris Saavedra. During her time abroad, she maintained friendly ties with notable figures, including former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

According to information released on May 30, 2026, Newton is now making an active return to the Ukrainian music scene-a development that could mark a significant moment for her fans.

Her comeback suggests a revival of her artistic work after a long hiatus. This could have a positive impact on contemporary Ukrainian music, especially in terms of raising the profile of Ukrainian artists internationally. Fans are hopeful for exciting new projects in the near future, as well as a boost to the country’s overall music culture.
