Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and UNDP held a meeting to discuss the legal regime of lands under peatlands in Ukraine. Peatlands are important for carbon accumulation and have a significant impact on climate and biodiversity. During the meeting, details of future regulation of these territories were discussed, such as national inventory, types of land use and creation of information resources.
One of the important requirements is to maintain the current designation of lands under peatlands and minimize the impact on economic activities. The new regulatory rules will not affect already existing plots of land, but will only relate to future designations of territories.
