The Minister of the Czech Republic summoned the Ukrainian ambassador over the words of the Speaker of Parliament
Meeting of the Czech Foreign Minister with the Ukrainian Ambassador
According to Главком: The Czech Foreign Minister Petr Matzinka plans to meet with the Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Zvarych to discuss the comments made by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic Tomio Okamura regarding Ukraine. This decision came in response to Okamura's statements that raised concerns among the Ukrainian side.
Tomio Okamura, the Speaker of the lower house of the Czech Parliament, expressed views that, according to Vasyl Zvarych, were formed under the influence of propaganda from the aggressor country, the Russian Federation. Zvarych described Okamura's words as disgraceful and unacceptable, noting that they contradict the principles of democracy and the values of the Czech Republic. These comments sparked outrage within the Ukrainian diplomatic mission.
Political changes in the Czech Republic and their impact on relations with Ukraine
It is worth noting that the new government of the Czech Republic, led by Prime Minister Andrei Babish, plans to steer the country away from supporting Ukraine. Prime Minister Babish was appointed by the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel on December 15, along with deputies, including Petr Matzinka. In this context, support for Ukraine has become an even more pressing topic for discussion.
The Czech Foreign Minister, commenting on the situation, emphasized that it is inappropriate for an ambassador of a foreign state to publicly assess the statements of one of the highest officials in the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, the meeting between Matzinka and Zvarych aims to clarify the positions of both countries and find ways for further cooperation, despite existing differences.
This situation highlights the growing tensions between Ukraine and the Czech Republic against the backdrop of changes in the latter's political environment. The lack of clear support from the new Czech government may affect relations between the countries, raising concerns in Ukrainian circles. It is important that the meeting helps clarify positions and establish new channels of communication that can foster cooperation in the future.
