143 Ukrainian Lyceums to Get Modern Learning Spaces Under New Education Initiative
Memorandum Signed to Advance the Modern Learning Spaces Project
According to Главком: On May 28, at the Kuboid Mathematics Museum, Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science, along with System Capital Management, DTEK, and Metinvest, signed a Memorandum to support the Modern Learning Spaces project. This initiative aims to create state-of-the-art educational environments in academic lyceums across Ukraine, addressing the country's critical shortage of engineering and technical professionals.
DTEK and Metinvest have allocated approximately 11 million UAH to fund a dedicated project support team. By September 1, 2026, 143 pilot academic lyceums are expected to begin operating under the new standards. The Modern Learning Spaces project is being carried out by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine within the framework of the World Bank program 'Enhancing Access and Resilience of Education in Crisis in Ukraine (LEARN),' in partnership with the Eastern Europe Foundation.
Why This Project Matters for Ukraine's Education System
Oxen Lisovyi, Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science, stated: 'Ukraine needs engineers, technologists, researchers, and specialists who will create solutions for the country's recovery, economic development, and enhanced security.'
Olena Semych, a representative from DTEK, emphasized: 'DTEK has long and systematically worked with young people to preserve and develop the industry's human capital. We collaborate with specialized educational institutions, promote dual education, and create opportunities for gaining practical skills in production and professional growth in Ukraine.'
She added: 'As a reliable partner of the state and one of the country's largest employers, we are investing through this project not only in the future of energy but also in the future of Ukraine as a whole.'
The signing of this Memorandum marks a pivotal step in transforming Ukraine's educational landscape, aiming to build modern learning spaces that equip specialists to meet the demands of today's economy.
The Modern Learning Spaces project reflects Ukraine's commitment to modernizing its education system and tackling the shortage of technical talent. Collaboration between government bodies and the private sector-particularly major companies like DTEK and Metinvest-can significantly enhance the quality of education and equip young people with essential knowledge and skills. The implementation of this project opens new avenues for developing engineering education in Ukraine, which is vital for the country's economic growth and recovery.
As the education sector in Ukraine evolves, initiatives like the one undertaken by the Community Recovery School play a crucial role in equipping local leaders with the necessary skills to drive community development. These educational programs not only complement the Modern Learning Spaces project but also emphasize the importance of fostering capable professionals who can contribute to the nation's recovery and growth.
