Changes in the US Peace Plan Regarding Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: The US peace plan for Ukraine, which consisted of 28 points, has undergone significant changes following consultations between Kyiv and Washington in Geneva. President Volodymyr Zelensky is expecting a report on the results of the negotiations on Monday evening. It is important to note that the plan in the form that everyone has seen no longer exists. Some points have been removed, while others have been modified.

Negotiations in Geneva

The negotiations, during which the discussion of the peace plan took place, were held in Geneva. The idea of the peace plan arose at the end of October when Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff held three days of talks with Russian emissary Kirill Dmitriev in Miami. The initial version of the plan included:

  • Ukraine's refusal to join NATO;
  • limiting army size to 600 thousand people.

Currently, the US and Ukraine have agreed on an updated framework for the peace agreement. Meanwhile, the European Union has prepared its own counter-plan consisting of 24 points. It is important to note that no remarks from the Ukrainian side went without a response. Thus, the next steps in the peace process remain in question, and new details may emerge soon.

Changes in the peace plan indicate significant progress in negotiations between the US and Ukraine, but also highlight the complexity of the situation.

Interaction between countries may affect the next steps in the peace process, especially in the context of new initiatives from the European Union. This could become an important stage in finding a compromise that will impact stability in the region.
