Training for Veteran Assistants in the National Police Is Officially Underway

According to МВС: Twenty-eight veterans who now serve as assistants to National Police unit heads on veteran policy began a dedicated training course, opened by Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi, Veterans Affairs Minister Vitalii Kim, UK Chargée d'Affaires Charlotte Suren, and Acting National Police Chief Maksym Tsutskiridze. The participants include National Guard members and Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel who rejoined police service after injuries and rehabilitation.

Vyhivskyi said the ministry plans to run similar courses across all units under the Interior Ministry's umbrella in the near future.

“We need a single, consistent understanding of the assistants’ role and a shared vision of how they work in the regions, so veterans’ requests are handled as quickly as possible. We are working to hold these trainings in every Interior Ministry unit soon and to further reinforce the institution of veteran-policy assistants. Upholding the rights of Ukraine’s defenders and treating them with dignity are constant priorities,” he said.

Course Goals and Why They Matter

This course treats veteran policy as part of day-to-day law enforcement rather than a distant goal. It aims to improve cooperation between police and veterans and to ensure that veterans’ issues are tackled effectively. The British Embassy Kyiv's participation illustrates international backing for these efforts.

This initiative fits into a wider drive to help veterans re-enter civilian society and law-enforcement roles. By sharpening the skills of National Police unit leaders’ assistants, the program should improve responses to veterans’ needs and, in turn, support their integration into communities and professional life.
