Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs Launches 'Tattoo Recognition' Portal to Identify Missing Persons
New 'Tattoo Recognition' Portal Goes Live
According to Главком: Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs has introduced a new online section called 'Tattoo Recognition' on its 'Single Window for Citizens' portal. This tool is designed to help identify individuals who have gone missing under extraordinary circumstances. The platform publishes sketches of tattoos found on unidentified bodies that have been repatriated or evacuated to Ukrainian-controlled territory. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the large number of missing persons cases resulting from the ongoing conflict.
The 'Tattoo Recognition' resource aims to assist pre-trial investigation bodies in establishing the identities of the deceased. To use the new section, users must log into their personal account on the 'Single Window for Citizens' portal. The catalog of tattoo sketches is regularly updated and supplemented with new materials to ensure the information remains current.
Search Parameters and Contact Information
Users can conduct searches using several key parameters, including:
- tattoo category (text, portraits, military symbols, etc.),
- tattoo type (sub-category),
- location and body part,
- description.
If someone has information that could help identify a person, they can contact the hotline of the Commissioner for Persons Missing under Special Circumstances at 1698 or send a message to [email protected].
The message should include the following details:
- the applicant's full name,
- contact phone number,
- data on the missing person (full name, date of birth, relationship to the applicant),
- the tattoo sketch number and any other details that could aid identification.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recently adopted in principle and as a whole the draft law No. 13646, underscoring the importance of this initiative.
The launch of the 'Tattoo Recognition' online section represents a significant step toward improving law enforcement's work in identifying missing persons, particularly under the conditions of armed conflict. Leveraging modern technology and digital resources can accelerate the identification process and provide aid to families searching for their loved ones. This initiative also highlights the necessity of cooperation between state authorities and citizens in resolving complex social issues.
